I'm surprised at how many places pay their workers above minimum wage. The Sheetz (a regional gas station chain based in PA) near my house starts people at $1 per hour (according to the sign on their door). Friends' daughter, with literally NO experience just got a job waiting tables where she makes $20/hr after tips. Even Walmart is starting people at $12. I'm sure that there are places which pay minimum, but I don't know why anybody takes those jobs when there are better alternatives out there, even for people with no experience at all. I remember back in the day McDonald's did this in Canada with their toonie Tuesday promotion. 2 dollars for a big mac.
