 My mom. She adopted both me and my brother from Russia, me in 98 and my brother in 02. Shes a single woman, but she wanted kids. She paid an exorbitant amount for the two of us, 75k each. Just imagine most people have kids for free but she wanted to raise kids so much she would throw her retirement savings in the hole so she could experience the joys and pains of being a mother. And let me tell you neither me or my brother have been easy or cheap. But she continues to believe in me every day, even after I fucked up so much. I will never not think she's the greatest woman ever. The amount of pain I've put her through, being an addict, it hurts me but she's stood by me no matter what. It goes to show that love is not biological. You can love something like your own even if you're not related via DNA. Thanks for everything mom, I will rue the day you leave me but I just want to let you know that you will always be my role model.

I'm surprised at how many places pay their workers above minimum wage. The Sheetz (a regional gas station chain based in PA) near my house starts people at $1 per hour (according to the sign on their door). Friends' daughter, with literally NO experience just got a job waiting tables where she makes $20/hr after tips. Even Walmart is starting people at $12. I'm sure that there are places which pay minimum, but I don't know why anybody takes those jobs when there are better alternatives out there, even for people with no experience at all. I remember back in the day McDonald's did this in Canada with their toonie Tuesday promotion. 2 dollars for a big mac. But of course you'd wanna buy a drink and some fries and that's how the get ya Toonie Tuesday died such a slow undignified death at KFC as inflation took its course. First it was $2 after tax, then it was $2 before tax, then it was $2.22 before tax before they finally put it down. 2 Big macs for $2 was the deal we had here in Chicago for a long time in the 90's and early 2000's. I saw an outdoor food court when I was in the San Diego area last summer. Thought it was a good idea, then remembered I live in Arizona and it would be a terrible idea for large parts of the year. Maybe they could cut costs and bake the pizzas on the sidewalk. Could be state or local laws that force that. I can go into Sam's Club and buy alcohol, tobacco, pharmaceuticals or have an eye doctor appointment without a membership because state law prohibits it.
